Once upon a time in the town of sunny sayreville, a
fairy child was born by the name of Maureen Loughman.
Her mum was from Paisley Scotland, and it took her a
few years to find out her name wasn't really "bloody
wee bugger". The biker dudes up the street called her
moe-moe from kokomo when she was three, which was
shortened to "moe". Her dad was from Kearny, NJ and
played the bagpipes. Most know him as "Uncle Frank"
or Mr. L. (he's sort of a celebrity...)
Any way,
being the fourth of five children, Moe was often free
to roam the woods and the claypits of the old
Sayre-Fisher Brick Co. She spent most of her
childhood walking thru woods, streams, hills,
collecting rocks or toads or frogs or tadpoles or
whatever else nature sent her way. Or else bike
riding around the neighborhood or on the hills of the
forbidden hills of "Alcapulco"-the most famous of the
Sayreville claypits for it's great ba-ha-ing hills and
man made swimming lake.
Well it wasn't long before
she took up the Highland Dancing that her mum always
wanted her daughters to do. And stuck it out the
longest-till she was about fourteen-about the time she
discovered alcohol. (I hope her Dad isn't reading
this!) Ach, well. And then she began to party in the
woods and claypits she knew and loved so well. She
also learned to play the guitar, and had friends that
shared her interests- drinking and playing music.
They would take turns raiding each others parents'
liquor cabinets. Then they'd proceed to learn some
Stones or Zepplin tunes.
Eventually she returned to
her Irish-Scottish roots and drank and played Irish
music! Then she learned to play the Bohran that her
mum and dad bought her for Christmas one year. Which
brings us to the present time, when one day Dad
invited her to go to Molly Maguires because he heard
they were having a session. So she took her drum and
away they went. She met three more illegitimate
cousins who welcomed them with "Hey Uncle Frank!".
After she tilted a few, she joined in with the other
musicians and was drumming away when John (founder of
Celtoids) walked in with a friend sporting guitars.
They invited her to start up an Irish Band with them
doing old and new Irish songs. And by then she had a
good buzz going on so of course she said yes! When she
sobered up and realized what she was getting herself
into she decided she should just have another drink
and go with the flow.........to be continued.
